Claustrophobia
A downloadable game
So, here's my half-and-half project: half made by me, half made by AI.
I'd had this project sitting in draft form for a few years, but I'd never managed to finish it. I already had a clear idea of what I wanted to build, the 3D models, and the music ready (which I composed myself, taken from my music project on itch.io: https://madmakingmistery.itch.io/). I'd also tried building a procedural map generator, but I could never get it to work properly. So the whole project ended up frozen, unfinished.
As AI models got better, I decided to give AI a shot at finishing the parts I couldn't figure out myself. And voilà... turns out it's nowhere near as easy as those Claude, GPT, and Google demo videos make it look. The AI screwed up a ton of things, and I had to fix a ridiculous amount of mistakes before the project was actually functional, even with carefully written prompts and a well-defined scope.
The first problem was the map.
My procedural generator was a complete piece of crap, I'll admit, and the AI couldn't get the calculations right either. So I scrapped my generator and used Simple Dungeons as a starting point (link here: https://github.com/majikayogames/SimpleDungeons). From there, I built on top of it, guiding the AI through the calculations I wanted to change.
After a lot of fighting with it, I finally got it working. The adapted Simple Dungeons generator actually works.
Then came the lighting effects and low-poly textures, along with more problems, testing, and revisions. But eventually, I managed to get everything done.
There are probably still bugs, but the damn thing works.
Anyway, here's a demo video.
